Following concerns raised by the Indian cricket board regarding “the safety and security of players and match officials participating in upcoming ICC events including the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019,” ICC chairman Shashank Manohar assured the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that the security of the Indian team, or any team participating in the World Cup in England this summer, would be the governing body’s “top priority.”
“I have received the BCCI’s letter. Security has, and always will be, the top priority of the ICC,” Manohar told TOI from Nagpur on Friday. He said BCCI will get a first-hand idea of the security being provided to the teams at the ICC Board meeting in Dubai on March 2.
“When the ICC (board members) meet in Dubai on March 2, we will show the BCCI all the security plans which have been placein for the World Cup. They can satisfy themselves over the arrangements of the World Cup. Everybody is entitled to do that,” he added.
Manohar revealed he would place BCCI’s letter to the ICC in the meeting of the member boards. “As far as the other issues are concerned, I will place BCCI’s letter and the concerns expressed therein, before the ICC Board.”
