BCC employees’ withdrawn strike after 32 days

Permanent and temporary employees of Barisal City Corporation (BCC) called off their thirty two days strike on Tuesday noon following a negotiation meeting with BCC Mayor Ahsan Habib Kamal, councilors, leaders of the striking employees and Md. Habibur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner, Barisal.
After this meeting striking BCC employees joined in work from 1:00 PM Tuesday ending long strike of 32-days and started to clean the city from the garbage pile during strike .
BCC Mayor Ahsan Habib Kamal announced before the journalists and agitated staffs that, according to the decision of the negotiation meeting, BCC authority will pay two months arrear salaries with three months provident fund among temporary and permanent employees.
BCC mayor called the employees to join in duty withdrawing the strike for the sake of citizen-services, he told the journalists.
Dipak Lal Mridha, leader of the agitated workers said, after meeting with administration, Mayor and Councilors, we called off our indefinite strike, as mayor acknowledged the justifications of our demands and assured us to pay all of arrears salaries gradually and soon.
So over 1600 temporary workers and 541 permanent staffs joined in their duty from Tuesday afternoon.
Habibur Rahaman, Deputy Commissioner, Barisal said we learnt that at least 23 core taka taxes from citizen, private, government and semi-government organizations, became arrears.
So for regularizing the collection of arrear dues we called the BCC authority for taking steps to collect those arrears in private sectors with the help of their employees and send a copy of letter about the dues in public sector establishments to get our help in realizing those dues.
Dipak Lal Mridha, in charge of the sanitation department and one of the leaders of the strike, said according to the decision of the negotiation meeting, arrear salaries of two months would be given and amounts of three months provident fund would be deposited at bank as soon as possible.
Within seventh April salary of one more month would be given and another meeting would be held on March 27 about payment of rest dues, Dipak added.
