Unlike the past, the High Performance (HP) Unit of Bangladesh, a platform for the fringe players to hone their skill and get them ready for the national team, will be a completely separate entity to make sure that it will not mix-up with the Bangladesh A team.
High Performance Chairman Naimur Rahman, MP, revealed it, stating that the process will help them to judge their overall improvement.
It is often seen that HP Unit is mixed up with the Bangladesh ‘A’ team, hampering the development of HP unit as most of their members quit the program half-way to complete their assignment with the “A” team either at home or away.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) often blamed that they found out that the scheduling HP unit is not synchronized with Bangladesh A team.
In 2018, BCB’s HP program ended with an ODI series against Bangladesh Under-19 squad after as they failed to get any overseas tour.
HP unit were supposed to tour Sri Lanka in September but the tour was canceled as the Sri Lankan Cricket Board was not keen to host them at their own expense.
The matter is now resolved. However Naimur Rahman, also a BCB director and the former Bangladesh captain believes that it is high time that the HP program should start running independently.
“We are hopeful about touring Sri Lanka as they have agreed to host us that they failed last year due to some financial problem,” Naimur said here on Saturday.
“Last time we had some kind of binding like no one was willing to give us tour or it[ our scheduling] was not matching with the A team,” he said.
“As that problem is solved [with the assurance of SLC] and we have got a separate program for HP, so there is no need for us to plan our HP program in accordance with Bangladesh A team scheduling,” he added.
“If there are players capable of representing the A team surely they will go but we want to keep the HP program within our boundaries,” he revealed.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board on May 2015 formally launched US$1million worth High Performance Programme with an aim to have the best prepared players in international cricket.
“We have planned to start HP Programme after the end of Premier League followed by rest and recovery break. The number would be like 24-25. Because two teams needed for the practice as well as need for the HP matches.
“The numbers of 24-25 are being kept for more options,” he said adding they are looking to bring some high-profile coaches for specialized program.
“Obviously it[ HP program] will be different because we’re arraigning some specialized camps here,” he said.
