UNB, Dhaka :
Chairman of the Cricket Operation Committee of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Akram Khan on Monday said the board will announce a revised T20 squad for the India series today.
Two members of the previous squad announced on October 17 — Mohammad Saifuddin and Tamim Iqbal-are not going to India. Saifuddin has been ruled out of the tour due to a back injury while Tamim withdrew him from the squad citing personal reasons.
“We’ll announce a fresh T20 squad for the India tour on Tuesday as two members of the previous squad are not available for the series. And, it’ll take at least two days to announce the Test squad for India series,” Akram told the media at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
“We got an offer from the BCCI to play a day-night Test in India. We have to take a decision regarding this matter and we have to discuss it with the cricketers,” he added.
Neither Bangladesh nor India played a day-night Test before. If Bangladeshi cricketers agreed to play a day-night Test in the forthcoming series, it will be the first day-night Test for both the countries.
Akram did not confirm Shakib’s presence in the T20 squad. Replying to a
question regarding this, he said: “I don’t have any official information of Shakib’s absence in the squad. So, we aren’t going to say anything about it. You’ll come to know it on Tuesday.”
Shakib’s unavailability came to fore because of continuous discontent between the star cricketer and the cricket board. The Test and T20 captain of Bangladesh has recently signed a contract with a leading telecom company of the country, which was a clear violation of the players’ agreement with the BCB.
Bangladesh will play a three-match T20 series against India from November 3 before heading to a two-match Test series.
