The much-talked-about election to the country’s most affluent sports body, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), will be held on Tuesday.
The voting will begin at 10am at the BCB board room at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur and end on 5pm.
Out of the 23 directors, 20, including outgoing BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon, have already been elected unopposed.
The voting will now be held for the posts of three directors –two from Dhaka Division and one Barisal Division.
Four candidates – outgoing director Naimur Rahman Durjoy (Manikganj), Tanveer Ahmed Titu (Narayanganj), Ashfaqul Islam (Kishoreganj) and Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan (Narsingdi) will vie for the two posts of director from Dhaka Division.
Eighteen councillors of the Dhaka region will exercise their voting rights to elect their two directors
Former captains of Bangladesh cricket team Akram Khan and Khaled Mahmud Sujon were elected uncontested.
Khaled Mahmud was the only one to submit nomination papers in category-3 under which he is a councillor as a BCB-nominated former cricketer. Akram represents the Chittagong divisional sports association. Both were BCB directors during the 2013-2017 period.
Earlier on Sunday, Junaid Hossain of Munshiganj withdrew his candidature in favour of Naimur Rahman Durjoy.
Another former director Abdul Awal Chowdhury Bhulu will fight against Alamgir Hossain Alo for the remaining one post of director from Barisal region.
The unopposed elected BCB directors are: Category-1: (Divisions & Districts)
Chittagong Division- Akram Khan and AJM Nasiruddin, Sylhet Division-Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, Khulna Division-Kazi Inam Ahmed and Sheikh Sohel, Rajshahi Division- M Saiful Alam Chowdhury, Rangpur Division-Advocate Anwarul Islam.
Category -2 (Clubs)
Afzalur Rahman Sinha, Gazi Golam Mortuza, M Hanif Bhuiyan, M Ismail Haider Mallick, Mohammad Jalal Younus, M Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, Mahbubul Anam, Manjur Kader, Najib Ahmed, Nazmul Hassan Papon MP, Shawkat Aziz Russell and Tanjil Chowdhury.
They were elected uncontested as two other candidates — Enayet Hossain Siraj and Ahmed Sajjadul Alam Bobby — withdrew from the race.
Both of them are going to be the BCB directors under National Sports Council quota as per revised constitution of BCB.
