The election of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will be held today at the Board Room in BCB of Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur. Though there are 25 posts for the Directors of BCB but the election will be held in 16 posts. The election will be held from 10.00am to 5.00pm.
A number of 127 councilors will cast their vote. Seventy councilors are expected to cast their vote after reaching the polling booth, while rest of the councilors will cast their vote through e-vote and postal ballets.
The elected Directors will act for the next four years. The result of the election will be announced today. The final and official result will be announced tomorrow.
Thirty candidates have submitted their nomination papers for 23 posts. Ahmed Sazzadul Alam Bobby and Jalal Yunus have been named Directors from the quota of National Sports Council (NSC).
Seven candidates have been unopposed elected. They are: AJM Nasir Uddin, Akram Khan (Chattogram Division), Kazi Inam Ahmed, Sheikh Sohel (Khulna Division), Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel (Sylhet Division), Advocate Anwarul Islam (Rangpur Division), Alamgir Khan Alo (Barishal Division). The formal election will be held rest of the 16 posts of Directors.
16 candidates have submitted their nomination papers for 12 posts in the club categories. Incumbent President of BCB Nazmul Hassan Papon, MP, Gazi Golam Mortaza (Gazi Group Cricketers), Najib Ahmed (Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited), Mahbub Anam (Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited), Masuduzzaman (Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited), Obaed Rashid Nizam (Shinepukur Cricket Club), Saiful Islam Bhuiyan (Old DOHS Sports Club), Salahuddin Chowdhury (Kakrail Boys Club), Ismail Haider Mallick (Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited), Enayet Hossain (Azad Sporting Club), Fahim Sinha (Surjo Tarun Club), Iftekhar Rahman (Fair Fighters Sporting Club), Monjur Kader (Dhaka Assets), Md Abdur Rahman (Mirpur Boys Club), Rafiqul Islam (Gazi Tires Cricket Academy), Monjur Alam ( Asif Shifa Cricket Academy).
A total of seven candidates have been unopposed elected from seven districts.
Naimur Rahman Durjoy, MP, (Manikganj District), Tanvir Ahmed Titu (Narayanganj District), Syed Ashfaqul Islam Titu (Kishoreganj District) have submitted their nomination papers for two posts.
Former captain of Bangladesh National Cricket team Khaled Mashud Pilot, Saiful Alam Chowdhury have submitted their nomination papers in Rajshahi Division. One shall be elected from this division. Saiful Alam Chowdhury is the incumbent Director of BCB.
In the Category-3, Khaled Mahmud Sujon and Najmul Abedin Fahim will contest for one post.
