The first Test captain of Bangladesh Naimur Rahman Durjoy, Syed Ashfaqul Islam and Alamgir Hossain Alo were elected directors of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in the much-talked-about election to the country’s most affluent sports body held at the BCB board room on Tuesday.
Outgoing BCB director Durjoy of Manikganj and new face Syed Ashfaqul Islam of Kishoreganj, brother of former Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, bagged 13 votes each out of 18 to be elected BCB directors from Dhaka region beating Tanveer Ahmed Titu of Narayanganj and Shahinul Islam Bhuiyan of Narsingdi.
Another new face Alo of Barisal Division polled five out of 7 defeating former BCB director and his lone rival Abdul Awal Chowdhury Bhulu of Barisal district.
However, the official result of the election will be announced on Wednesday after the election for the hot seat of BCB president by newly elected board of directors.
Earlier, 20 out of 23 directors, including outgoing BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon and two former captains of Bangladesh cricket team Akram Khan and Khaled Mahmud Sujon, were elected unopposed.
The BCB arranged the voting for the posts of three directors – -two from Dhaka Division and one from Barisal Division.

Afzalur Rahman Sinha, Gazi Golam Mortuza, M Hanif Bhuiyan, M Ismail Haider Mallick, Mohammad Jalal Younus, M Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, Mahbubul Anam, Manjur Kader, Najib Ahmed, Nazmul Hassan Papon MP, Shawkat Aziz Russell and Tanjil Chowdhury.
Category -3 : Khaled Mahmud Sujon
The candidates of category-2 for the clubs were elected uncontested as two other candidates– Enayet Hossain Siraj and Ahmed Sajjadul Alam Bobby — withdrew from the race. Both of them are going to be the BCB directors under National Sports Council quota as per revised constitution of BCB.
