A countrywide Cricket Carnival 2016 for Under-12 age group by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) started Friday aiming to create interest among the school-children and awareness amongst their guardians.
Former and current national cricketers — Shabbir Rahaman (Rajshahi), Taijul Islam (Natore), Abul Hasan Raju (Moulvi Bazar), Saiful Islam (Mymensingh), Ehsanul Haque (Sherpur), Nurul Abedeen Nobel (Chittagong) and Nafis Iqbal (Chittagong) — took part in the carnival on the opening day on Friday to encourage the participating youngsters.
BCB is organising the carnival in two phases in association with the National Sports Council (NSC) in 70 separate venues across the country.
The carnival was held in 33 district venues on the first day. It will take place at five separate venues in capital Dhaka on July 18 and 19, followed by a further 32 district venues on July 22 to complete the first phase.
Each venue is scheduled to host seven matches in a day. The format is 12-overs-a-side inside a 30 yard circle.
A total of 32 children (boys and girls) will be selected from each district or venue based on performance in the first phase. Selected players will undergo a seven-day basic training programme for the second phase.
