The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to include their Under-19 World Cup winning squad members – pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib and left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan – in their current Under-19 set-up keeping in mind the next age-level global tournament, scheduled next year in West Indies.
“As they (Tanzim and Rakibul) are eligible (because of their age) to take part in the U-19 World Cup next year they are asked to join the U-19 camp in Khulna,” BCB Game Development Manager AEM Kawser said.
The current U-19 squad is doing a camp from November 8 in Khulna and they will play three one-day matches respectively on November 13, 17 and 18 among themselves before taking part in the upcoming tri-team series (Bangladesh and two Indian U-19 teams) hosted by the BCCI in Kolkata later this month.
Bangladesh’s current U-19 team has been unsuccessful to live up to the expectations till now as they suffered a clean sweep defeat against Sri Lanka during a five-match YODI series in Dambulla last month.
Before that series, the junior Tigers managed to defeat their Afghanistan counterparts 3-2 in an ODI series at home before losing the lone Youth Test by three wickets against the same opposition in September.
Prantik Nawrose Nabil, who was also part of the World Cup winning team in South Africa but didn’t feature in any match, has been in the current U-19 set-up from the beginning and the inclusion of Tanzim and Rakibul now makes three U-19 World Cup winners, who are likely to feature in another World Cup.
