The Brahmanbaria Zila Parishad ascertained damages-caused due to the mayhem unleashed by Hefajat-e-Islam activists and supporters in the district from March 26 to 28.
Properties worth Tk five crore of the Zila Parishad were damaged during the mayhem, Md Shafiqul Alam, chairman of the Zila Parishad came up with the information today at a press conference held at his office.
“Around 400-500 madrasa students suddenly appeared in front of the
main gate of Zila Parishad Dak Bungalow during the countrywide hartal of Hefajat-e-Islam and broke the main gate,” he said.
Later, they carried out an attack on the Zila Parishad office and Dak Bungalow, vandalised the properties and set different structures on fire, he said.
The Zila Parishad chairman said Tk 2.8 crore is need for the repair work of the Zila Parishad office and Dak Bungalow while the total damages were estimated to be worth Tk five crore.
He also demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in damaging the properties of the state.
