Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Sunday will release new currency notes worth Tk 24,000 crore marking the Eid-ul-Azha festival, officials said on Saturday.
Customers will be able to collect the new notes from the BB’s head office at Motijheel Commercial Area and 20 selected branches of 18 commercial banks in the capital in exchange of old notes.
“The new notes will be distributed from Dhaka and regional offices of the central bank till the last working day before Eid,” M Saiful Islam Khan, General Manager (Currency Management Department) of BB, told The New Nation.
He said, BB will print new notes amounting to Tk 10,366 crore while the remaining amount will be met from its current stocks.
An individual will be able to collect one bundle of Tk 10 note, one bundle of Tk 20 note and three bundles of Tk 5 note in exchange of old notes for maximum Tk 5,000 from the designated branches of the commercial banks, he added.
The new notes will be available at Janata Bank’s Abdul Ghani Road and New Market branches, Sonali Bank’s Ramna and Elephant Road branches, Rupali Bank’s Mohakhali branch, Prime Bank’s Malibagh and Mirpur branches, Pubali Bank’s Sadarghat branch, National Bank Ltd’s Jatrabari branch, Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd’s Shyamoli branch, Mercantile Bank’s Banani branch, Southeast Bank’s Karwan Bazar branch, Uttara Bank’s Chawkbazar branch, ONE Bank’s Bashabo branch, ICBL’s Basundhara City branch, IFIC bank’s Gulshan branch, First Security Islami Bank’s Mohammadpur branch, Bank Asia’s Dhanmondi branch, Dhaka Bank’s Uttara branch and Dutch-Bangla Bank’s Dakkhin Khan’s SME and Agriculture branch.
The old notes can also be changed at Bangladesh Bank’s Chittagong, Khulna and Sylhet offices apart from Dhaka office. Besides, customers can change notes from three special counters of Barisal, Rangpur and Rajshahi regions.
