Bangladesh Bank on Tuesday rescinded the bank recruitment test that took place on Friday last at different centers in the capital to recruit officers at over 7000 posts remained vacant at eight state-owned banks.
The decision on cancellation of the test was made at a top level meeting at the central bank presided over by its Governor Fazle Kabir. Informing the decision, deputy spokesman and general manager of Bangladesh Bank Abul Kalam Azad said that an inquiry committee was formed headed by the bank’s executive director Ahmed Jamal to investigate into the mismanagement in holding the recruitment exam. “The committee was asked to submit its report within two weeks” he told UNB.
Officials said after getting the inquiry report, Bangladesh Bank will take decision on fixing a new date for exam. Earlier, the Bangladesh Bank had decided to retake the recruitment test following the mismanagement at two exam centres at Mirpur where over 6000 applicants missed to sit for their test. But with the new decision, now all the applicants will have to sit for exam again when Bangladesh Bank will hold a fresh recruitment test. More than 5,000 candidates could not take part in the recruitment test on January 12 at the two centres-Government Bangla College in Mirpur-1 and Hazrat Shah Ali Mohila College in the same area in the city. Bangladesh Bank had designated a total of 61 exam centres across the city. It was alleged that a number of candidates found all the seats already occupied when they entered the centres, especially at Hazrat Shah Ali Mohila College. They complained that there were no seat plans at the centre and in many cases four to five candidates had to sit on a single bench meant for accommodating only two. Finding no empty benches, they said, many candidates left the centre to take the 100-mark MCQ test. The deprived candidates that staged agitation outside the centre demanding cancellation of the recruitment test. The candidates continued their protest through agitations and also in social media demanding a fresh exam and punitive action against the responsible for the mismanagement.
The recruitment test for the posts of senior officer, officer and cash officer was held to fill over 7,000 vacancies at the banks. Many candidates said that it will be another matter of cost to come to the capital to participate in the exam. So, the Bangladesh Bank should bear that cost, specially that to be spent for travelling to the capital from outside of Dhaka, said one candidate.
