BB fails to stop looting Tk 6000cr from People’s Leasing: Depositors

Depositors of People’s Leasing and Finance Limited have said that the central bank has failed to stop the looting of Tk 6,000 crore from it.
They allege that the former Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, SK Sur Chowdhury, and the Executive Director, Shah Alam, have directly and indirectly helped looting of dedepositors’ money from People’s Leasing.
In this situation, the depositors think that the governor of the central bank Fazle Kabir has no moral right to remain in his post.
They raised question over the retirement of the bank’s executive director Shah Alam with his full pension money. They also demanded resignation of Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Fazle Kabir.
The depositors came up with the demands a press conference in the Abdus Salam Hall of the National Press Club on Sunday (May 22).
Chief Coordinator and Convener on behalf of individuals and six thousand depositors of People’s Leasing and Finance Company, Atiqur Rahman Atiq gave a written statement at the press conference.
Hundreds of depositors including Rana Ghosh and Samina Chowdhury were present at the time.
Later, at 12:30 pm, several hundred depositors of People’s Leasing staged a human chain in front of the National Press Club.
