Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Thursday decided to provide some special incentives as a rewards to the borrowers who pay their loans regularly.
“The central has decided to offer special incentives to the good borrowers to help develop a good credit culture,” BB said in a directive to the managing directors and chief executives of all scheduled banks.
Giving a guideline in the directive, the central bank asked all banks to start identifying the good borrowers among their clients.
BB said the borrower should be identified as a ‘good borrower’ if he/she does not have any classified loan in the past three years in a row. In case of term loan, a borrower would be considered good if he/she pays installments regularly.
No one will be considered as a good borrower if there is any classified loan in his/her name or the names of their companies.
“All the good borrowers should be offered at least 10 percent rebate on the interest,” BB said, adding that this decision would be implemented immediately.
