Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) is taking initiative to close the risky Bayezid bypass road again. Initially, illegal occupants of the hill under the CDA will be evicted in Bayezid. After that, considering the effect of rain, the road will be closed. The CDA is going to take such steps to protect the hill from landslides or accidents. CDA is constructing 6km road from Bayezid Bostami to Fauzdarhat in Sitakunda to solve the traffic congestion problem of the city.
The construction work of the road started in 2015 has been completed 92 per cent. However, the CDA was fined Tk10 crore for cutting more hills than the environmental clearance and the Department of Environment filed a case against the contractor in 2020. In this situation, the unfinished work of Bayazid Link Road project is pending as the issue of lawsuits and fines has not been resolved. In the meantime, the CDA was forced to reopen the road in two phases due to landslides.
