Bawaipara Kalarghat Bridge wok begins

The construction of the long-awaited 99-metre-long Uttam Bawaipara Kalarghat Reinforced Cement Concrete Bridge began on the river Ghaghot under Ward No-10 in the city.
Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu inaugurated the construction by unveiling plaque of foundation stone of the bridge at a ceremony on the site on Tuesday afternoon as the chief guest.
The RCC has been implementing the construction of the bridge under the construction package of 34 roads and three bridges at Taka 60 crore allocated by the present government at an ECNEC meeting held on August 11, 2015. The total cost of the Bawaipara Kalarghat Bridge is Taka 4.90 crore. After inaugurating the construction of the bridge, the City Mayor offered special munajat along with hundreds of local people from all walks of life.
Later, he attended a public rally arranged on the occasion at the nearby Purbo Gilabari Government Primary School ground as the chief guest with Chief Executive Officer of RCC Ruhul Amin Khan in the chair.
City Councilors Anwarul Islam, Golam Sarwar Mirja, Mahbubar Rahman Manju, Akram Hossain, Abdur Razzaque, Jahurul Islam Azabbar, Akhteruzzaman Bhutto, Haradhan Chandra Roy, Female City Councilors Dilara Begum and Shamima Akhter, Executive Engineer of RCC Azam Ali, addressed, among others.
The City Mayor said the new bridge at the Kalarghat point on the river Ghaghot would fulfill the long cherished demand of the people of Purbo Gilabari, Uttam Bawaipara, Pan Bazaar and adjoining areas.
“After completion of the construction work, the overall communication network will improve significantly. Besides, it will reduce the overall travel distance in the area and benefit thousands of people in their day- to-day life,” he added.
