BAU workshop on adoption of climate resilience crop varieties

An inception workshop was held at Bangladesh Agricultural University on Thursday for the project titled “Adoption of Climate Resilient Crop Varieties in Selected Environmentally Vulnerable Areas of Bangladesh and Its Impact on Farm Productivity”.
The project is funded by Krishi Gobeshona Foundation (KGF).The university’s Agricultural Economics department hosted the programme, in which BAU Vice chancellor, Professor Dr. lutful Hassan was the chief guest.The executive director of Krishi gobeshona foundation (KGF) Dr. Jiban krishna Biswas was present as chief patron.
The Chief Discussant was Emeritus Professor and Ex-Vice Chancellor of BAU, Dr. M. A. Sattar Mandal. Bangladesh Agricultural UniversityResearch system (BAURES) Director Professor Abu Hadi Nur Ali Khan presided over the session . In the workshop, the research proposal was presented by Professor Dr. Hasneen Jahan, the Principal Investigator of the project. Professor Dr. Humayun Kabir, Head, Department of Agricultural Economics, BAU, delivered the welcome address.The session was facilited by Dr. Mahbub Hossain and Dr. Nahid Sattar, the Co- Investigators of the project. Ms Nazneen Islam Nishat and Ms Razia Sultana were the rapporteurs of the session.
Agricultural scientists from different institute like Director General of BARI and BINA, Director of BRRI and others were present. Teachers from different departments of BAU also participated in the workshop.
The main purpose of the project is to find out the determinants of stress tolerant rice and wheat variety adoption in environmentally vulnerable areas and understanding its impact on farm productivity in Bangladesh. Therefore the findings of the project will be useful to policy makers in taking appropriate measures for increasing the adoption of climate resilient variety.
