BAU Correspondent :
A section of students under the banner of Students’ Association of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) confined Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Rafiqul Haque to his residence on Tuesday demanding resumption of all classes and examinations, and punishment to the students, who assaulted teachers.
They blocked VC’s residence on Tuesday afternoon at around 4.00 pm. But police dispersed the students from VC’s residence after four hours. Later, an altercation took place between them on the road in front of the VC’s residence. The students protested the charging of baton on them.
Later, they staged sit-in in front of the VC’s residence the whole night to press home their demands. The VC, however, refused to answer some questions raised by them. “We will continue our sit-in here until our demands were met,” the Students’ Association leaders said.
BAU VC told, “The leaders of Students’ Association confined me to my residence as I had punished Saad’s killers. Their behaviour were not like a student.”
An emergency syndicate meeting has been summoned to solve the on-going unrest prevailing on the campus, said the VC.
On the other hand, the agitating students demonstrated on the campus at around 10:00am yesterday, demanding life-term expulsion, arrest and capital punishment to the killers of Saad. They checked all faculties to ascertain whether classes were being held ignoring strike call.
Fiery talks were traded between the agitating students and the Veterinary Students’ Association members when they (demonstrating students) went to Veterinary Science faculty to halt a class.
Receiving the information, BAU proctorial body rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
