BAU Correspondent :
Teachers of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Wednesday declared to abstain from their work for an indefinite period to press home their four-point demand, including a separate pay scale for the university teachers.
After this declaration, the fear of semester loss grips the students, as their final examinations are not being held.
The declaration of work abstention came out from an emergency meeting of teachers held at microbiology gallery at around 12:00pm. BAU Teachers Association (BAUTA) president Prof Dr Khandoker Shariful Islam presided over the meeting. He said that no class and examination will be held on the campus during the work abstention.
The association also protested the Tuesday comments of Finance Minister AMA Muhith that the minister found ‘no justification’ for the movement by the teachers saying ‘the highly educated section is demonstrating for lack of knowledge’. In the meantime, teachers of agricultural engineering took the ongoing exam’s answer sheet after passing half an hour while they heard about the decision. The several students of second to final year of different faculties said that already they are lagging behind for three to four months and yet to finish their final examination.
They also suspect that they would have to face a semester loss if the work abstention would continue for one month.
Protesting the 8th pay scale, teachers of all public universities have been staging various programmes for separate pay scale for the university teachers.
