Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has been placed in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking for the first time. BAU secured 2nd position in Bangladesh and 1000-1200 in worldwide. The Times Higher Education has published a list of the best universities in the world. In 2021, the organization published a list of 1,662 out of about 10,000 universities in 93 countries. The list is based on research, outreach and teaching standards based on achieving the SDGs set by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
This information was given by the Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University Prof. Dr. Lutful Hassan on Thursday through an online discussion meeting. Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar was present virtually as the chief guest organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of BAU. IQAC’s Director Prof. Md. Taj Uddin and Additional Director of IQAC Prof. Dr. Md. Harun ur Rashid, a member of the University Grants Commission Prof. Dr. Md. Abu Taher, Bangladesh Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lutful Hassan, media personality Subhas Singh Roy and senior alumni , teachers, officials, employees and invited guests spoke at the discussion.
The World University Ranking is one of the most prestigious ranking in the world. According to world rankings, Dhaka University ranked 1st and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) ranked 3rd in Bangladesh.
Vice-Chancellor of the Bangladesh Agricultural University Professor Dr. Lutful Hassan congratulated all the teachers, students, officers, alumni and employees for their relentless efforts in conducting educational activities, international research and activities. He also said we are overwhelmed by this success. We continue to strive to be among the top 500 universities in the world in the future. He further said that since its inception, Bangladesh Agricultural University has been playing a pioneering role in increasing agricultural production by innovating appropriate technology through modern agricultural education and research and disseminating it among the farmers. Over the last six decades, the graduates of Bangladesh Agricultural University have been making significant contributions to the modernization and expansion of technology in agriculture. As a result, the country today has achieved remarkable success in achieving food and nutrition security for its growing population. He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Education Ministry and UGC for their support. He expressed the hope that the success of the university will increase gradually.
The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of BAU has been working on this ranking of the university since 2019 and the Additional Director of IQAC, Prof. Dr. Md. Harun ur Rashid was in charge of the overall supervision in this regard.
