Teachers, graduates, students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), under the banner of Krishibid Institute Bangladesh (KIB), on Saturday observed ‘krishibid day’ with enthusiasm.
They brought out a rally from university helipad to mark the day which ended at Bangabandhu Smrity Chattar. They paid homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through placing floral wreaths on the base of Bangabandhu memorial.
Later, in a short discussion, speakers urged the government to declare ‘Krishibid Day’ as a national day.
Prof Dr Md Shahidur Rahman Khan, president of BAU Chapter of KIB, presided over the program with Prof Dr SD Chowdhury, convener of BAU dean council, as chief guest and Prof Dr Md Jasimuddin Khan, BAU students affairs adviser, as special guest.
It is mentionable that different agricultural universities, KIB and other agricultural institutes are observing to mark Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s acceptance of the demand for giving agricultural graduates the status of first-class officers in civil service.
Graduates from agricultural universities were regarded as second-class officials prior to that, although doctors or architects enjoyed the status of first-class officers.
Bangabandhu accepted the demand of agricultural graduates at a gathering at Bangladesh Agricultural University on this day of 1973.
