Battle against poverty is a never ending agenda

The researchers and experts on Sunday expressed that the battle against poverty is a continuous process and a never-ending agenda as eradication of poverty is almost impossible.
They also mentioned that Bangladesh has gained tremendous stride in conquering poverty at a rapid pace.
They were addressing a three-day long international seminar of Regional Network on Poverty Eradication (RENPER) with a theme of “Advancement in technology for poverty reduction: opportunity and challenges” held at the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU).
Former Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Mohammed Farashuddin was the chief guest in the inaugural session while Deputy VC of University Malaysia Kelantan and Chairman of RENPER Prof Dato Dr Ibrahim Bin Che Omar as the special guest.
BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Ali Akbar was present as the chief patron with Prof Dr M Afzal Hossain in chair.
In his keynote presentation, FAO representative in Bangladesh Mike Robson said that poverty is not only present in the rural areas but in urban areas as 30 percent people are going through the process of urbanization.
He also put emphasis on gender friendly technology development to reduce the burden of women’s work.
Dr Mohammed Farashuddin urged to make the youth to a resource for the improvement of the country because about 50 million of total population is youth in Bangladesh.
After the inaugural session of the seminar they also inaugurated an agri-tech fair in the agriculture faculty corridor, which will continue till the ending of the seminar.
