Chittagong Metropolitan Police imposed ban on plying of battery run rickshaws in the port city from yesterday (Wednesday) and the owners and associations relates to battery run rickshaws have been asked not to come out in the street their rickshaws from Wednesday.
Additional police Commissioner of CMP AKM Shahidur Rahman confirmed the matter of prohibition to battery run rickshaws. CMP sources said the stay order of High Court in favour of running of battery run rickshaws dismissed by Supreme court appellate Division on June 22 and so this prohibition is imposed.
Sources said if any one defies the prohibition of CMP , legal actions will be taken against the owners and rickshaws will be seized. Prohibition imposed four times in last six months on these rickshaws and last eviction was enforced on May 15 last but due to some legal complications it was stopped, sources added.
On the other hand common people and city commuters observe that if the battery run rickshaws are stopped in this holy Ramadan month, severe transportation crisis will prevail and commuters will face utter transportation miseries with high extents. Conscious quarters thinks this prohibition on battery run rickshaws should not be imposed in this holy month for the sake of the city commuters and devout muslims .
