With an aim to promote application of ICT tools for sustainable development of agriculture in Bangladesh, a “Bangladesh Society for Information Technology in Agriculture (BASITA)” has been officially declared by a group of professors of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh on Sunday.
A 20-members founding executive committee has been formed with members from different public universities, and government and private institutions. This society will be a national level forum of agricultural professionals working or willing to work in the field of agricultural information technology in Bangladesh. This will be absolutely an autonomous, non-political, non-governmental and non-profit organization said the president of the society Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman.
He also said it is the first society on information technology (IT) in agriculture that will work on application of IT in promoting the development of agriculture in Bangladesh. Dr Md Ali Ashraf, general secretary of BASITA said this society will develop an effective network of agricultural professionals engaged in agricultural research and extension, agricultural entrepreneurs and the farmers.
