Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) urged to RAJUK to issue a SRO immediately to ensure that the order of not operating any business in non-commercial area will not be applicable for BASIS members. A press conference took place at BASIS regarding Software/ITES Company’s office space in non-commercial areas.
At the press conference BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir, Senior Vice President Farhana A Rahman and BASIS Secretary Hashim Ahmed were present.
BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir said, recently RAJUK started to close down office spaces of various companies in non-commercial areas. According to him, Housing and Public Works Minister and the then RAJUK Chairman assured that BASIS member companies will be forced to shift their offices in commercial areas.
But we have seen, in recent times RAJUK has closed down BASIS Member Company Solution 9 Limited’s office for being located at non-commercial zone in Uttara. They have not been given any prior notice in this regard. Besides, this incident has damaged their reputation severely. Prior to that, RAJUK closed down another BASIS member company’s office at Uttara.
BASIS’s Senior Vice President Farhana A Rahman said, BASIS Member companies have clients in USA, Japan and across Europe. To cope up with the time zone many BASIS Member Companies have to provide service 24/7. Commercial spaces wont maintain/allow 24/7 operation. Besides, software and ITES related works are solely depended on brain work; which needs silent environment as well.
Among the 1100 BASIS member companies 800 of them have their office in non-commercial area. Approx 1 million people are working directly in these companies. According to the BASIS data, these companies having office in non-commercial area invested 500 million USD in ICT sector. Besides, these companies annual revenue is 800 million USD.
