Entertainment Report :
A haven for movie-lovers in the capital, Star Cineplex in the Bashundhara City Shopping Mall, will not reopen. The news was confirmed by the Head of PR of Star Cineplex Mesbahuddin Ahmed on Tuesday.
The ongoing pandemic and its substantial toll on the theatres, however, did not cause Star Cineplex to close its halls in Bashundhara.
Mesbahuddin Ahmed told The New Nation, “Bashundhara Cineplex had sent us an eviction notice last month. Our tenant contract ends in October 1. After that, our contract will not be renewed. Bashundhara City may have other plans with that space.”
Previously, the theatre chain called a press conference declaring a seven-point plea to the government in order to salvage their 15 screens across Bangladesh. All branches of Star Cineplex have remained closed since March 20.
“We will wrap up all operations in that location only. The other branches will remain operational as soon as the pandemic subsides. We will also continue with our expansions, as planned,” added Mesbahuddin Ahmed.
Bashundhara’s Star Cineplex has effectively drawn in film lovers from all over the capital throughout its run. The unfortunate news is bound to shock film enthusiasts across the country.
