Reigning champions Bashundhara Kings defeated Dhaka Abahani Limited by 4-1 goals in their crucial match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday.
Bashundhara Kings led the points table bagging 34 points from 12 matches, while title aspirants Dhaka Abahani Limited took the third spot in the points table collecting 22 points from 11 matches.
Bashundhara Kings led the first half 2-0.
Bashundhara’s Argentine recruit Raul put his team ahead by a placing shot in the 18th minute of the play. Raul got the ball after his Brazilian teammate Robinho’s shot bounced back from the post.
After six minutes, Bashundhara’s Iranian recruit Shafiei made it 2-0 by a flick using a flag-kick of his teammate Robinho.
Earlier, Bashundhara got an opportunity in the ninth minute of the play. But Shafiei’s header was saved by Abahani goalie Sohel.
Abahani got the first chance in the 15th minute of the match. But Bashundhara’s defender cleared the ball at the D-Box before Abahani’s Haitian recruit Belfort headed the ball.
Abahani got another chance in the injury time of the first half. But Belfort’s header bounced back after touching the cross-piece.
After the lemon-break, Fernandez of Bashundhara made it 3-0 after deceiving the Abahani custodian in the 51st minute of the clash.
Raul of Bashundhara increased the tally into 4-0 by a header using a cross of his teammate Fernandez in the 76th minute of the match.
Dhaka Abahani were awarded a penalty kick in the 81st minute of the game. Belfort reduced the margin by a spot-kick.
Later, Belfort’s power-packed left-footer bounced back from the bar in the 88th minute of the match. Thus, Dhaka Abahani Limited conceded a big marginal defeat by their opponents.
