Bashundhara Kings retained their Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football title after beating Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited by two goals to nil in their 20th match of the most prestigious domestic football competition at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday.
Bashundhara Kings captured 55 points from 20 matches, while Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited earned 39 points from 19 matches. Bashundhara Kings emerged the champions with four matches in hand.
Dhaka Abahani Limited became six times champions in the BPL Football, while Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited clinched the BPL title for three times, Bashundhara Kings achieved two times champions in the League and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Limited won the crown of the League one time and rest of the one edition was abandoned.
Bashundhara Kings led the first half 1-0. Bashundhara’s Brazilian recruit Robinho put his team ahead in the 21st minute of the play.
After the lemon-break, Bashundhara’s Brazilian recruit Jonathon Fernandes sealed the fate of the match by scoring a goal in the 62nd minute of the game.
Robinho scored 19 goals in the League so far. Earlier, Abdus Salam Murshedy scored 27 goals in the First Division Football League (The most prestigious domestic football competition that time). Robinho needs eight goals to touch the record of Abdus Salam Murshedy. Bashundhara Kings have a match against minnows Arambagh Krira Sangha on August 12. But it depends of the Coach of Bashundhara Kings who will give him permission to play that match as Bashundhara Kings will play in the Group-D match of the AFC Cup. The Group-D matches of the AFC Cup are scheduled to be held in Maldives from the mid of the August.
