Bashundhra Kings lost to Chittagong Abahani Limited by 2-1 goals in their second leg match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday. It was the first defeat for league leaders Bashundhara Kings in their BPL campaign.
Bashundhara Kings led the points table securing 49 points from 18 matches, while Chittagong Abahani Limited took the fifth position earning 31 points from as many matches.
Chittagong Abahani led the first half 1-0.
Chittagong Abahani’s Nigerian recruit Mathew put his team ahead in the 39th minute of the play by an angular shot using a superb pass of his teammate Nasirul.
After the interval, Bashundhara’s Brazilian recruit forward Robson leveled the margin in the 87th minute of the clash. Mathew advanced with the ball and dodged past Robson and then Khaled Shafi and Mathew scored a spectacular goal by a left-footer angular shot in the 88th minute of the match.
Chittagong Abahani got their easiest chance in the 34th minute when their Brazilian recruit Nixon failed to put the ball into the net using a pass of his teammate Rakib.
Bashundhara Kings were awarded a penalty kick in the 48th minute of the match. But their Argentine recruit Raul’s spot-kick bounced back after touching the crosspiece. Thus Bashundhara Kings were deprived of a confirm goal.
