Reigning champions Bashundhara Kings beat Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra by a solitary goal in their match of the TVS Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football at Bashundhara Sports Complex in the city on Monday.
Bashundhara Kings led the points table securing 15 points from six matches, while Sheikh Russel took the seventh position earning five points from as many matches.
After the barren first half, Bashundhara’s Brazilian recruit Robinho was roughly charged by Sheikh Russel defender Nasir Uddin in the 81st minute of the match. Thus, referee awarded a penalty in favour of Bashundhra Kings. Robinho scored the match-winning goal by a spectacular penalty kick.
Bashundhara got the first chance in the seventh minute of the play. Mohammad Ibarim’s header was gripped by Sheikh Russel goalie Ashraful Islam Rana.
After four minutes, Sohel Rana’s forceful shot was saved by Sheikh Russel custodian. Sohel Rana got the ball in the sheikh Russel D-box by a pass of his teammate Robinho.
Sohel Rana’s power-packed shot went wide in the 23rd minute of the match.
In the 30th minute, Bashundhara’s Nigerian recruit, who is now a Bangladeshi, Eleta Kingsley’s shot was saved by Sheikh Russel goalie.
Kingsley’s header went over the cross-piece in the injury time of the first half.
After the lemon-break, Sheikh Russel’s substitute player Mannaf Rabbi’s side volley was saved by Bashundhara goalie in the 59th minute.
