Reigning champions Bashundhara Kings were held by Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited as the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football match between the two League titans ended in a goalless draw at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday.
Earlier, Bashundhara Kings registered seven victories in their seven matches. Yesterday Bashundhara Kings lost two points after making a draw with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited. Bashundhara Kings missed their first chance in the 24th minute of the play. Their Iramian recruit Khalid got the ball at the D-box of Sheikh Jamal from a long throw of his teammate Bishwanath but Khalid failed to convert that chance.
Before the lemon-break, players of Bashundhara Kings and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club got a good number of chances but they could not utilize those chances.
After the interval, Sheikh Jamal’s Gambian defender Omar struck the ball into the net using a through pass of his teammate Zahid in the 88th minute of the game but the referee did not show the signal of goal as Omar had hit Tapu Barman of Bashundhara Kings before he struck the ball into the net.
Thus the two teams left the field after splitting points.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Abahani Limited blanked Arambagh Krira Sangha by four goals to nil in the day’s other match at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshuganj.
Abahani led the first half 2-0. Abahani’s Brazilian recruit Francisco put his team ahead using a assist of his teammate Raihan in the 31st minute of the play. Francisco made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute.
After the intermission, Abahani’s Afghan recruit Masih Saighani increased the tally into 3-0 in the 61st minute of the game.
Deepak Roy of Dhaka Abahani Limited sealed the fate of the match at the dying moment. Bashundhara Kings led the points table bagging 22 points from eight matches, while Dhaka Abahani took the second position in the points table securing 18 points from eight matches. Sheikh Jamal took the third spot with 17 points.
