Bashundhara Group MD Sayem Sobhan Anvir has promised to provide a permanent office for the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB), a body of the crime reporters working in different media outlets in Dhaka, as soon as possible.
He made the commitment at a meeting with the leaders and Executive Committee of the CRAB led by its President Mirza Mehidi Tamal paid a courtesy call on Sayem Sobhan Anvir at his Bashundhara residence in the capital on Sunday.
During the meeting, members of the CRAB Advisory Council Shankar Kumar Dey, Khairuzzaman Kamal, SM Abul Hossain, Parvez Khan, Madhusudan Mandal and Fakhrul Alam Kanchan, its General Secretary Asaduzzaman Biku, Vice-President Jahangir Alam, joint secretary Imran Hossain Sumon, Finance Secretary Saiful Islam Montu, Organising Secretary Ataur Rahman, and former general secretary Dipu Sarwar were present.
Asaduzzaman Biku presented the organisation’s expectations on behalf of the executive committee.
Taking into cognisance of CRAB’s various expectations, the Bashundhara Group MD said his organisation has been contributing to the welfare of journalists as they are dedicated to the country and the nation. It has already established several media houses to create jobs for journalists and develop honest, fearless and objective journalism, he added.
He assured CRAB a permanent office as soon as possible. He also promised to provide Tk 3 lakh to the family in case of death of a CRAB member, and a minimum assistance of Tk 50,000 if any of its member is seriously ill or injured while performing professional duties.
