League leaders Bashundhara Kings beat Chittagong Abahani Limited by a solitary goal in their match of the TVS Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football at the Bhasha Sainik Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla on Thursday.
Bashundhara Kings have achieved the top position in the points table bagging 48 points from 19 matches, while Chittagong Abahani Limited have taken the seventh position earning 26 points from as many matches.
After a barren first half, Nuha Marong of Bashundhara Kings scored the all-important goal by an angular shot in the 52nd minute of the play.
Bashundhara got the first chance in the 15th minute of the play. Bashundhara’s foreign recruit Miguel Ferreira got the ball from a through pass of his Brazilian teammate Robson Robinho but Miguel’s shot was fisted by Chitagong Abahani custodian Saiful.
Bashundhara’s Yeasin Arafat’s angular shot went wide in the 19th minute of the play.
After one minute, Yeasin Arafat struck again but his shot was cleared by Chttagong Abahani’s Shakhawat Roni.
Chittagong Abahani got the first chance in the 24th minute. Peter Thangod’s header failed to found the met. He got the ball from his Afghan teammate Omid Popalzay.
In the 36th minute of the match, Omid Popalzay’s free-kick was saved by Bashundhara goalie Anisur Rahman Zico.
After the intermission, Popalzay’s passed a ball to his teammate Monir Alam but Monir’s shot was fisted by Zico in the 54th minute of the game.
Chittagong Abahani’s Shawkat Russel’s header was returned to the field after touching Bashundhara’s foreign recruit Khaled’s body in the 56th minute of the clash.
Bashundhara’s Brazilian recruit Robinho failed to put the ball into the net in the 68th minute of the match.
Bashundhara’s Matin Mia passed the ball to Mahdi Khan but Mahdi’s shot went wide in the 87th minute of the encounter.
In the 89th minute of the clash, Zahid Hossain’s spectacular corner kick was gripped by Zico, Thus, Chittagong Abahgani Limited were deprived from a goal.
Earlier, Bashundhara Kings defeated Chittagong Abahani Limited by five goals to nil in their first round match at Bashundhara Sports Complex in Dhaka.
