The Cyber Tribunal of Dhaka, yesterday (Thursday) granted bail to the former Caretaker Government Adviser Barrister Mainul Hosein granted after his lawyer submitted the certified copy of the High Court Division in the case filed against him for using abusive language against journalist Masuda Bhatti under the Digital Security Act. Besides, the court fixed February 3 for charge hearing.
However, on December 18, a High Court bench of the Supreme Court granted bail for six months to the former Caretaker Government Adviser Barrister Mainul Hosein under the Digital Security Act.
Earlier, the defence lawyer submitted the certified copy of the bail order to the tribunal. On November 29, Judge Mohammad Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain of the tribunal fixed January 3 for re-hearing the bail in the case, filed under sections 25(2) and 29 of the Digital Security Act. Speaking on the bail petition on November 29, last year, former President of SCBA, Khandaker Mahbub Hossain said, so far 22 cases have been filed against another former SCBA President Barrister Mainul Hosein due to political provocation.
The case was filed on the charge of passing alleged indecent comment on journalist Masuda Bhatti in a TV talk show on October 16. On October 24, Sumona Akter Lily, Awami Juba League and Sports Sub-committee member filed the case.
