Eight of motorcycle stealing gang arrested
A team of Barishal Metropolitan Police led by Assistant Police Commissioner Russell Ahmed arrested eight members of motorcycle stealing and buying gang after a drive recently. Police also recovered four stolen motorcycles from their possession. Arafat Hossain, Sub Inspector of Barishal Kotwali police station, acknowledging the facts said Mamun Husain, member of the gang, was detained by local people and giving mass beating handed over to police while tried to steal a motorcycle from Steamer Ghat area of the city on February 6. Then police interrogating him revealed facts about an organized gang of motorcycle stealing group and started investigation and collecting facts about the gang members. On basis of the collected information police operating drives at Betagi, Mokamia, Koruna and Sadar upazila of Barguna district arrested more seven including three members of the gang name Nayon, Labu Mia, Khan Shaheb and four buyers of stolen motorcycles. Police also seized the recovered four motorcycles from their possession. The arrestees revealed that after stealing motorcycles from different areas of the region they gang members changing parts, colors, engine chassis and numbers sold those to remote areas of Pirojpur, Bhola, Barguna, Cox bazaar, Khulna districts in price comparatively cheaper than regular price. The arrestees sent to jail after producing before the court on Wednesday and police continued drives to arrest other members of that criminal gang, said Nurul Islam, officer in charge of Barishal Kotwali police station.
BCL leader of BM College commits suicide
Hena Aktar, 30, a former BCL leader of Barishal Government B M College Unit committed suicide by hanging herself from rooftop of her bed room on Tuesday early morning. Hena Aktar was wife of Niaz Morshed Shamim residing at Oxford Mission Road area of the city. urul Islam, Officer- In -Charge of Barishal Kotwali police station, acknowledging the fact quoting family sources said Hena Aktar committed suicide over family feuds. Rashedul Islam, ward master of Barishal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, said family members admitted Hena Aktar in critical condition on early Tuesday and she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday early morning. Fire gutted 15 shops at Waizirpur Upazila
A devastating fire gutted at least 15 shops and damaged properties worth Tk. 1 core at Shikarpur Bandar under Wazirpur upazila of Barishal district on Sunday night. Shahnaz Mia, station officer of Wazirpur upazila fire service station, said four units of Wazirpur, Gournadi and Barishal fire service stations rushed to the spots about 9:30 PM Sunday and extinguished the fire after early Monday. Causes of fire yet not determined and according to fire service estimate at least 12 shops gutted and properties worth Tk 70 lakhs damaged. However local people and Badal Shikdar, one of the affected business men claimed the fire damaged at least 15 shops and properties worth Tk 1 core. The gutted and damaged shops included jewelry, electronics, shoes, cloths, departmental and grocery item shops, the affected shopkeepers told. Officials of upazila, district administration and socio-political leaders visited the spot on Monday assuring the affected persons to extend helps.
Five brokers of medical services jailed
Detective branch of Barishal Metropolitan Police operating drive at Rupatali bus stand area arrested five brokers of medicare services of the city on Saturday afternoon and sent to jail after mobile court of district administration sentenced them to imprisonment. Sub Inspector Arobinda Bishwas of BMP DB, acknowledging the facts said among the arrestees Shahid Khan, 35, was sentenced to three-month, Monir Hossain Sardar, 49, Robiul Islam Mridha, 25, Zahirul Islam,55, Zamal Hossain Molla alias Nuruzzaman, 40, to one month imprisonment by the mobile court of the district administration. Besides working as brokers of different physicians, diagnostic laboratories and medical services, the accused were also connected with different criminal activities like snatching valuables from the passengers came from different areas outside Barishal and cheating them by assuring good medicare services, police sources added.
