Fish farm worker electrocuted at Gournadi
Worker of a fish cultivation farm at Bejhar village under Gournadi upazila of Barishal died on Saturday afternoon after electrocuted by the trap installed surround the farm.
Golam Sarwar, officer in charge of Gournadi police station, said Dulal Sardar, 50, son of Azhar Sardar working at the fish farm of Sohel Sardar of the village.
At about 2:30 PM he entered in the farm without disrupting electricity supply of the fence installed surrounding the farm for preventing rats and thieves.
The he severely injured by electrocution and brought to Gournadi upazila health complex where attending physician declared him as dead.
Till this report no case was lodged and the dead body preserved at the police station, officer in charge told.

One beaten to death
One Abul Kalam Mridha, 48, allegedly a mental patient, has been killed by beating and forcibly drowning in the pond for driving away demon (Jeen) by witchcraft in Awliapur village of Bakerganj upazila under Barishal district on Saturday.
Police recovering the dead body detained one Anika Begum, sister of witchcraft Riaz Fakir, said Anwar Sayeed, circle inspector of Bakerganj police.
Police quoting family members and local sources said dead victim Kalam Mridha was a resident of Khalishakhali village under Badarpur union of Patuakhali sadar upazila.
Recently he becoming mentally sick beheaved unnatural and family members suspected that he was affected by Jeen (Jiner Asar).
To drive away that Jeen they brought Kalam to witchcraft practitioner Riaz Fakir of Awaliapur on Friday morning.
Witchcraft Riaz Fakir and his associates forcibly drowned Kalam two times at 10 AM and 4 PM at his pond and beat him with stick.
Due to that torture Kalam became severely sick and Riaz Fakir hides Kalam at the house of his sister Anika Begum at night.
Parvin Begum, wife of Kalam, was sent to her home on Friday night saying that Kalam was under way to free from sickness by his (witchcraft) treatment.
However at night Kalam expired and neighbours of Riaz Fakir finding his dead body at the garden informed police.
Then police rushed to the spot recovering the dead body sent to Barishal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy and detained Anika Begum for interrogation.
Till this report no case was lodged and police trying to arrest witchcraft practitioner Riaz Fakir and his associates, police sources added.

Three drug peddlers arrested with narcotics
Rapid Action Battalion unit-8 operating two separate drives arrested three drug peddlers and recovered narcotics from their possession from Rupatali area of Barishal city and Bakerganj upazila on Friday.
RAB-8 issuing press statements on Friday said opening a check post at Rupatali area of Barishal city on Friday noon they arrested Russell Bepari, 26, of Vandaria under Pirojpur after searching passenger-bus of Didar Paribahon plying on Chittagon-Barguna-Patharghata route.
Then RAB recovered 950 pieces Yaba tablet from his possession hidden inside an out of order IPS.
After interrogating the arrestee it was revealed that Bayezid Mallik, 28, of Laxmipur was involved with this drug peddling operating in southern region and then he was also arrested from Vandaria bus stand.
Both confessed about their involvement with drug peddling in southern region.
Zillur Rahman, deputy assistant director of RAB-8, as complainant lodged a case in this connection under narcotic control act with Barishal Kotwali police station and the arrestees sent to jail after producing before the court, RAB-8 sources added.
In another drive RAB-8 arrested one Sheuli Begum, 31, from her home at Charamoddi village under Bakerganj upazila of Barishal on early Friday.
RAB recovered 890 gram hemp from her possession searching her home.
 Al Mamun Shikdar, deputy assistant director of RAB-8 as complainant lodged a case under narcotic control act with Bakerganj police station and the arrestee sent to jail after producing before the court, RAB-8 sources said.

Two held for carrying polythene shopping bags

Barishal divisional office of environment directorate operating a drive on Thursday night sentenced and fined two including manger of Janani Courier Service Barishal branch and a businessmen for carrying and stocking banned polythene.
Abdul Halim, divisional in charge of Barishal divisional of environment directorate empowered as executive magistrate, on Friday noon said on basis of secret information environment directorate officials led by him operated a drive at Barishal office of Janani Courier Service.
From there more than 200 Kg. shopping bags made by banned polythene were recovered and seized.
After that Lokman Hoassin, manager of the courier service branch, was jailed for thirty days and fined fined Tk 25 thousand or to serve one month imprisonment in default.
Besides one Zakir Hossain, a businessman also sentenced to three months imprisonment and fined Tk.10 thousand or to serve more 22 days imprisonment.
The punitive actions were taken against the both for carrying, transport and stocking banned polythene shopping bags, the environment directorate official said.
