Barishal division has logged as many as 23 new Covid deaths in the past 24 hours, health officials said on Saturday morning.
Of the deceased, eight were confirmed Covid patients while the remaining fifteen showed symptoms of the virus.
All of them died at Sher-E-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH), the officials said.
Divisional Health Director Dr Basudev Kumar Das said that 536 patients have died of Covid-19 in the division so far.
Besides, 195 people have tested positive for Covid in Barishal division in the past 24 hours, the lowest number of cases in the past two weeks. Some 37,817 active Covid patients have been identified in the division to date, according to the officials.
Moreover, 277 Covid patients are currently undergoing treatment at the corona unit of SBMCH.
Meanwhile, relatives of some Covid patients have alleged that there’s a dearth of doctors at the hospital apart from an apparent oxygen shortage.
Meanwhile, Khulna division has logged 39 new Covid-related deaths in 24 hours till Saturday morning, as the Delta variant of the deadly coronavirus continues to wreak havoc across the country.
According to the divisional health director’s office, some 428 new infections were detected in 10 districts of the division during the period.
With the fresh figures, the total fatalities in the division have now reached 2,629, while the total cases mounted to 98,882, officials said.
On Thursday, 36 people died of Covid-19 in the division, while 761 people were found infected with the virus during the period.
In Khulna division, the first case of Covid-19 was detected in Chuadanga on March 19, 2020.
So far, 77,427 people have been recovered from Covid in the division.
