Barishal division recorded 31 new Covid deaths in 24 hours till Monday morning, the division’s highest single-day fatalities this year, said divisional health department authorities.
Of the deceased, 13 had tested positive for Covid-19 while the remaining 18 showed symptoms of the virus infection.
Of them, 23 died at Sher-E-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) alone, the officials said.
Divisional Health Director Dr Basudev Kumar Das said that 487 patients have died of Covid-19 in the division so far.
Besides, 798 people have tested positive for Covid in Barishal division in the past 24 hours.
Of the fresh Covid cases in the division, 282 have been identified in Barisal district alone. So far, 14,415 people have been infected with Covid in the district.
Some 34,627 Covid cases have been identified in the division to date, according to the officials.
According to SBMCH authorities, 56 more patients have been admitted to the hospital in 24 hours till Monday morning.
Moreover, 114 Covid patients are currently undergoing treatment at the corona unit of SBMCH and 197 in the isolation ward of the hospital.
Meanwhile, the country has registered 246 new deaths from Covid-19 in a day, taking the total toll to 21,162.
The Covid-19 caseload surged to 1,280,317 after 15,989 people tested positive for the disease in the 24 hours to 8 am Monday, according to the latest government data.
Dhaka registered the highest numbers of deaths and cases among the eight divisions, logging 76 fatalities and 7,660 infections in a day. Chattogram tallied 64 deaths and 3,315 cases,
Khulna 30 deaths and 1,373 cases, Rajshahi 22 deaths and 724 cases.
Nationwide, another 15,482 people recovered from the illness, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,108,748.
As many as 53,462 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 29.91 percent. The latest figures put the recovery rate at 86.60 percent and the mortality rate at 1.65 percent.
