Barisal Correspondent :’Barisal Mukto Dibas’, the day of freeing Barisal from the clutch of occupation forces, was observed on Tuesday (December 8) demanding preservation of the memorials connected with liberation war and execution of highest punishment of all war criminals.On this day in 1971 ‘Mukti Bahini’ (freedom fighters) took control of Barisal town, the then district headquarter and second largest river port of the country, defeating Pakistan occupation army and their associate collaborators in several pitched encounters.Day long programs including hoisting national and organisational flag, discussion at district Muktijoddha Sangsad office premises, discussion and cultural program at the alter of Bijoy Bihango, the memorial constructed to remember the incident, held to mark the day. The programs were participated by huge number of freedom fighters, representatives of pro-liberation forces, socio-cultural-political organizations. The discussion meeting held at district Muktijoddha office premises was presided over by Sheikh Kutub Uddin Ahmed, Commander of Muktijoddha Sangsad, and Barisal unit command. Saifuzzaman, deputy commissioner Barisal, Mokhlesur Rahman, Syed Anisur Rahman, Enayet Hossain Chowdhuri, MG Kabir Vulu, freedom fighters.Speakers of the progamme demanded immediate execution of the highest punishment of the all war criminals.They also calling for preservation of the places and evidences connected with liberation war said, mass killing ground and other places reminiscent of the glorious independence war in the Barisal city, are in a neglected condition even after four decades of the victory.
