Barisal Eid shoppers facing budget crisis due to price hike

Both the shoppers and the businessmen community of Barisal yet not happy about Eid sale in the markets.
Shoppers blamed budget crisis due to price- hike of the commodities and businessmen blamed inclement weather for the dull sale in Eid shopping.
Although huge numbers of shoppers are crowding the city’s shopping malls, the grand sale yet not started, said Haidar Hossain, a salesman at Venus Shopping Complex of the city.
Rashid Hasan, a shopper visiting Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hawkars Market of the city said she usually tries to finish her shopping within the second week of the Ramadan to avoid the rush, economic condition and downpour forced her for late shopping.
The price of goods now comparatively higher than in the first half of Ramadan. The market would be over crowded and price will also be up on last week of Ramadan. Usually at least 20 to 25 percent increase in price was expected and affordable, said Rokeya Begum, a housewife roaming in the market.
Rahman Mia, a hawker who was selling his garments in front of the Barisal district council , said ‘Eid shopping is yet to get momentum in the city. There are many shoppers but very few buy my products’.
Saidur Rahman Rintu, president of Barisal Chamber Of Commerce and Industries, said buying capacity of the commoners has fallen because of price hike of essential commodities and economic recession.
Sheikh Abdur Rahim, owner of exclusive dressing material seller Moyuri departmental store, expects a good sale on the last week of the Ramadan when the middle and lower income groups will throng their shops after getting salaries and Eid bonus.
