Barisal Division advanced to the top slot in the Tier-2 of the four-day National Cricket League crushing hosts Rajshahi Division by eight wickets on the 3rd day of the four-day affairs at Rajshahi Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium on Monday.
With the day’s 16 match points, Barisal Division dominated the Tier-2 league securing highest 53 points, 16 points ahead of the 2nd placed Rajshahi Division.
Replying to Barisal Division’s first innings total 311 runs, Rajshahi Division having 119 runs in the first innings resumed the 2nd innings on Monday morning with overnight 126 for 4 and were all out for 259 runs in 83 overs.
National opener Junaid Siddique scored 59 runs off 114 balls with eight boundaries, another night watch batsman cum national test captain Mushfiqur Rahim (11) made 43-ball 30 runs hitting six fours, lower order Farhad Reza contributed 121-ball 66 runs with eleven fours and one six while tail-ender Nihaduzzaman made 69-ball 31 with four fours.
Golam Kibria grabbed three wickets for 31 runs while Monir Hossain, Salman Hossain and Shohag Gazi took two wickets each conceding 31, 35 and 73 runs respectively.
Chasing an easy target of 68 runs, Barisal Division opened the 2nd innings and reached their ultimate goal scoring 69 runs for 2 in just 7.2 overs.
Opener Shahriar Nafees contributed an unbeaten 33 runs off 20 balls featuring five fours and two sixes, Shohag Gazi scored 10-ball 23 runs hitting four fours and one six, Fazle Mahmud made 5-ball nine runs with two fours while Salman Hossain remained not out on four runs.
Nazmul Hossain Shanta and Sanjamul Islam took one wicket each giving away 3 and 36 runs respectively.
Salman Hossain of Barisal Division was adjudged player of the match.
After the match, Barisal Division have secured 16 match points while Rajshahi Division bagged only three match points.
