Barisal Bulls beat Rangpur Riders by six wickets (According to Duckworth/ Lewis Method) in their rain-interrupted Twenty20 cricket match of the Bangladesh Premier League at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Thursday.
Sent into bat first, Rangpur Riders scored a paltry total of 104 for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
Then it started to rain when Barisal Bulls scored 19 for the loss of one wicket in 3.3 overs.
Later, a revised target of 75 in 13 overs was set for Barisal Bulls to win after the rain had stopped.
Barisal Bulls sailed home making 75 for the loss of four wickets when they had three balls to spare.
Barisal Bulls lost their early three wickets for 42 runs. Then Mahmudullah Riyad and Nadif Chawdhury (16) added 30 runs before Nadif Chowdhury was caught at the cover by Misbah-ul-Haq off Arafat Sunny when Barisal’s score was 72 for the loss of four wickets.
Mahmudullah Riyad remained unbeaten with 23. His 18-ball knock was studded with two fours.
Earlier, Rony Talukdar made 23 from 19 balls featuring three fours and a sixer before he was caught at the backward point by Mohammad Nabi off Arafat Sunny when Barisal’s total was 30 for the loss of two wickets.
Ewin Lewis (4), the other opener of Barisal Bulls was trapped leg before wicket by Wahab Riaz when Barisal’s score was 19 for the loss of one wicket.
One-down Mehedi Maruf was stumped out by wicketkeeper Mohammad Mithun off Shakib Al Hasan when Barisal’s total was 42 for the loss of three wickets.
Arafat Sunny was the pick of Rangpur bowlers with two wickets for 11 runs.
Earlier, Rangpur Riders lost their wickets in regular intervals.
Pacer Al-Amin Hossain played the key role to restrict Rangpur Riders to a fragile total.
He grabbed three wickets at the cost of 30 runs and was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Mohammad Sami and RR Emrit gave him a good support bagging two wickets each for 16 and 18 runs respectively.
Besides, Seekkuge Prasanna and Taijul Islam took one wicket apiece.
Opener Jahurul Islam and Misbah-ul-Haq were the two notable scorers for Rangpur Riders. Jahurul Islam made 24 from 32 balls while Misbah-ul-Haq hit 22 off 27 balls featuring three fours.
