Three aspirant candidates including wife of late Hiron submitted nomination papers at the election commission on Sunday, the last date of filing nomination papers for Barisal-5 by-election.
The aspirant candidates were Begum Jebunnessa Afroj, widow of late city AL president and lawmaker Shawkat Hossain Hiron and AL nominated candidate, Syed M Moazzem Hossain, director Pubali Bank and chairman Delta Life Insurance as independent candidate and Saiful Islam Liton, BNF nominated candidate.
Barisal-5 constituency was vacated after the death of AL lawmaker Shawkat Hossain Hiron on April 9 and Election Commission declared schedule for by-election on April 29.
Mir Md. Shahjahan, regional election officer and returning officer of the by-election confirming the report said scrutiny of the filed nomination papers would be held on May 14.
and last date of withdrawal candidature on May 21 while the by-election of Barisal-5 constituency will be held on June 12 according to the Election Commission announced schedule.
Ruling Awami League Parliamentary Board (ALPB) holding a meeting with Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair, at her official residence in Ganabhaban at Dhaka finalised their candidate for the by-election through interviews of aspirants and nominated Jebunessa Afroj, wife of late lawmaker Shawkat Hossain Heron, for by-election in the Barisal 5 constituency on May 8.
District AL president and lawmaker Abul Hasanat Abdullah holding a rally in front of party office in the city on Sunday morning submitted the nomination paper of Jebunnessa to the returning officer at noon accompanied by leaders of the district and city AL.
