National Cricket League: Barisal 417/6 in 1st innings against Ctg

In a battle of two lowly teams, Barisal Division, riding on a Mosaddek Hossain ton, scored 417 for 6 in 90 overs in the first innings against Chittagong Division on the first day of the 5th round of the Walton 16th National Cricket League at the BKSP ground-2 in Savar on Monday.
Batting first after winning the toss, Barisal Division posted a good total (417 for 6) at stumps on the first day (Monday) featuring 138 runs in 22 overs in the 6th wicket stand between Mosaddek Hossain and national color all- rounder Sohag Gazi.
Number five batsman Mosaddek Hossain contributed an unbeaten 150 runs off 166 balls with 20 fours and two sixes while number seven batsman Sohag Gazi scored 86-ball 94 runs with six fours and six sixes.
Besides, Mohammad Sajib (45) and Fazle Mahmud (36) were the other notable scorers for Barisal Division.
Faisal Hossain claimed two wickets for 96 runs.
In the day’s other league match between two top teams, league leader Dhaka Division opened the innings first after winning the toss and scored 244 for 6 in 91 overs in the first innings against their nearest rival Khulna Division on the first day at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah on Monday.
After the soft dismissal of two top order batsmen-opener Rony Talukder (5) and one down Nasiruddin Faruk (1) — for 20 runs in eight overs, another opener Abdul Majid pairing with national colour Raqibul Hasan, contributed 92 runs in the 3rd wicket stand to carry the team score to 112 runs from 20 overs.
Abdul Majid scored a patient 65 runs off 197 balls with 13 fours while number four Raqibul Hasan added 44 runs off 131 balls with three fours and a six.
But number five batsman Shovagata Hom hammered the team highest not out 84 runs off 108 balls with 12 fours and a six while number six Nadif Chowdhury scored 24 runs off 71 balls with one four and two sixes.
Mostafizur grabbed three wickets for 62 runs while national colour all-rounder Ziaur Rahman took two wickets for 28 runs.
At the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka Metropolis team batted first after winning the toss and scored 229 runs for 8 in 90 overs in the first innings against Sylhet Division at stumps on the first day (Monday).
After the departure of three batsmen-Saikat Ali (0), Shamsur Rahman (20) and Shadman Islam (34) — for 59 runs in 19 overs, captain Marshall Ayub partnering with Mehrab Hossain Junior scored 123 runs in the 4th wicket stand.
Two down Marshall Ayub scored 67 runs with eight fours while number five Mehrab Hossain Junior added 54 runs with four fours and a six.
Sadiqur Rahman and Abu Zayed grabbed three wickets each for 19 and 57 runs respectively.
At BKSP ground-3 in Savar, Rajshahi Division batted first after winning the toss and were all out for 263 in 85.5 overs in the first innings against Rangpur Division on the first day on Monday, featuring 133 runs in the 6th wicket stand by lower order Muktar Ali and Touhid Tareq.
Number seven Muktar Ali scored 85 runs off 101 balls with six fours and eight sixes while number six Touhid Tareq made 57 off 109 balls with nine fours.
Besides, Mizanur Rahman (32), Mysukur Rahman (26), Junaid Siddique (23) and Farhad Hossain (21) were other major contributors for Rajshahi.
Tanveer Haider and Sanjit Saha claimed three wickets each for 14 and 65 runs respectively while Suhrawardi Shuvo and Mahmudul Hasan took two wickets each for 62 and 70 runs respectively.
In reply, Rangpur Division opened the first innings in the late afternoon and scored 25 for no loss in six overs at stumps on the first day (Monday) with Liton Das (21) and Tareq Ahmed (4) remaining unbeaten.
After the 4th round matches of the eight-team battle, Dhaka Division retained the top slot with unbeaten run securing 80 points, Khulna Division in the 2nd slot with 75 points while Rangpur Division went down to the 3rd place bagging 63 points.
Dhaka Metro leapfrogged Rajshahi Division to take the fourth position securing 45 points while Rajshahi Division bagged 42 points to settle for the 5th place.
Sylhet, Barisal and Chittagong Divisions remained in their previous 6th, 7th and 8th places respectively.
