An eight-day long workshop on ‘Central Research Review and Planning Workshop-2015’ of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) was held at its auditorium on Monday.
Mohammod Nozmul Islam, Additional Secretary (PPC), Ministry of Agriculture, inaugurated the workshop as chief guest and Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) Dr Abul Kalam Azad was present as special guest.
Director General of BARI Dr Md Rafiqul Islam Mondal presided over the inaugural session.
Director (Research) of BARI Dr. Mohammod Jalal Uddin, presented on research activities and success of the institute. Director (Support & Services) Dr Md Rawshan Ali presented the welcome address while Director (Training & Communication) Dr Bhagya Rani Banik delivered the concluding speech.
Every year, BARI arranged research review and planning workshop in three steps (Regional, Internal and Central). Regional review and planning workshop organized in the eight regions of Bangladesh (Rangpur, Ishwardi (Pabna), Jessore, Barisal, Hathajari (Chittagong), Akbarpur (Moulvibazar), Comilla, Jamalpur and Gazipur). Internal & central research review and planning workshop organized in BARI head quarter, Gazipur.
Still, BARI has developed 451 high yielding varieties (including hybrid) and 452 crop production technologies of more than 200 crops. Some of these technologies and varieties are disease and stress resistance. Production of wheat, oilseed, pulse, potato, vegetables, spices and fruits have been increased using these technologies.
The objective of the workshop is to evaluate the developed technologies and to take new research program according to demand of the country.
About 500 agricultural experts, scientists, former director generals, directors, chief scientific officers, representatives from government, non-government and international organizations participated in the inaugural session.
