BARI holds consumer perception workshop

The Postharvest Technology Division (PHTD) of Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) organized a day long consumer perception workshop on “PHTD, BARI Developed Agricultural Products” at the seminar room of the division BARI on Wednesday. The program was funded by Asian Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (AFACI)-APPT, Bangladesh. A total 30 consumers participated in the program.
 BARI Director (Support & Services) Dr. Md. Kamrul Hasan was present as chief guest while Chief Scientific Officer and Head of PHTD, BARI Md. Hafizul Haque Khan presided over the function. BARI Director (Training & Communication) Dr. Muhammad Samsul Alom was present as special guest.
Senior Scientific Officer, PHT Division and Principal Investigator of the AFACI-APPT, Bangladesh Dr. Mohammad Mainuddin Molla and discussed about objectives and overview of project. Scientific Officer and Co-PI of the AFACI-APPT, Bangladesh Mr. Ashfak Ahmed Sabuz gave vote of thanks. Senior Scientific Officer of PHT Division Dr. Md. Golam Ferdous Chowdhury was also present on the occasion.
In his speech as chief guest, BARI Director (Support & Services) Dr. Md. Kamrul Hasan said, the PHTD of BARI was working to reduce post-harvest losses and value addition to the crop. And in this case, their success is a lot. Now we have achieved food security. There is no food shortage in the country for the last few years.
Now our job is to work on how to achieve nutritional security and increase food quality. In our country, about 15-40 percent of the crop is lost due to various reasons including transportation after harvesting. Crop processing can play a helpful role in ensuring nutrient security as well as reducing crop wastage.
