The government has undertaken a plan to construct barbed wire fencing along with ring road from Shahpori Island on Bangladesh-Myanmar border in phases aimed at preventing illegal intrusion, crimes, drug smuggling and border-related other criminal activities.
“We will construct 271 kilometer barbed wire fencing along with ring road from Shahpori Island on Bangladesh-Myanmar border in phases aimed at preventing unauthorised infiltration, drug smuggling and border-related criminal activities,” Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said.
He told this in the Jatiya Sangsad, while replying to a starred question from Treasury Bench member M Yeasin Ali of Thakurgaon on Sunday.
The Home Minister said that the barbed wire fencing and ring road is in primary stage, considering keeping the law and order under control in the country.
Also, responding to a question from M Mamunur Rashid Kiron (Noakhali-3), the Minister said the government has taken initiatives to build barbed wire fencing along 271 km road from Shahporir Dwip on Bangladesh-Myanmar border to halt illegal intrusion and drug.
Meanwhile, Asaduzzaman Khan on Sunday told Parliament that the government is taking appropriate steps to bring the attackers of police van under legal action through a proper investigation.
BNP activists recently attacked a prison van and snatched two detained fellowmen from it near High Court area of the capital. Three policemen were also injured as they swooped on the law enforcers guarding the vehicle with sticks, he claimed.
The Home Minister said the attack was carried out from the convoy of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia who was crossing the area on the way to her Gulshan home from a court at Bakshibazar.
“We’ve the video footage. We’re identifying them (attackers),” he said during a question-answer session in the House.
“It was a sudden attack on police. They poke two rifles and vandalised a prison van,” the Minister added.
