Barapukuria ex-MD, 7 others quizzed

Former Managing Director of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Ltd (BCMCL) Habib Uddin Ahmed was quizzed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday.
The anti-graft watchdog quizzed him and seven others for six hours at its Segunbagicha office.
After emerging, Habib Ahmed told reporters that around 1.45 lakh tonnes of coal disappeared due to technical reasons. “We hope we will be exonerated after fair probe.”
Meanwhile, ACC’s Deputy Director Shamsul Alam refused to make a comment in this regard for the sake of fair investigation.
The seven other BCMCL officials are: Md Abul Kashem Pradhaniya, general manager and company secretary, Md Mosharraf Hosen Sarker, manager (exploration); Md Masudur Rahman Hawlader, manager (general services), Ashok Kumar Halder, manager (production management); Md Arifur Rahman, manager (maintenance and operation); Jahidul Islam, manager (design, construction and maintenance) and Md Ekramul Haque, deputy manager (safety management). A case has been filed with Parbatipur Police Station in Dinajpur on July 24 in connection with disappearance of around 1.45 lakh tonnes of coal worth around Tk 230 crore.
Earlier on Tuesday, eight other accused in the case were interrogated by ACC.
