BAUET’s freshers’ reception held
Bangladesh Army University of Engineering and Technology (BAUET) Kadirabad, Natore accorded reception to the newly admitted students. On the occasion, a meeting was held at it’s campus on Sunday.
Vice Chancellor of the University Brigadier General Md. Mostafa Kamal was present as the chief guest there.Deans, Registrars, Proctors and new students of different faculties of the university spoke at the meeting. The programmee was conducted by Md. Hamidur Rahman, Head and Associate Professor of English Department. At the beginning of the programmee, the senior students greeted the new students with flowers.
The chief guest said, ‘In the current social context, you have to be a good person by acquiring character and human qualities. Because if education is dishonest, then education has no value. He further said that besides education, one should also be involved in co-educational activities. At the end of the programmee, the students were shown around the various important places of the university – classrooms, laboratories, libraries and were introduced to the concerned officers and staff.

Fake cigarettes factory fined

A company named Samir Tobacco Limited has been fined Tk 2 lakh for making and selling fake cigarettes in Baraigram of Natore district. On Friday night, the Department of Consumer Protection in collaboration with RAB-5 raided the institution at the Koyen Bazar area of the upazila and imposed the fine. Hasan Al Maruf and Mehedi Hasan Tanvir, assistant directors of the Rajshahi divisional office of the Consumer Rights Protection Department, led the campaign.
Mehedi Hasan Tanvir said that fake Derby and Goldlip cigarette sticks and bandrolls were found in the company. He was later fined Tk 2 lakh for making counterfeit products under the Consumer Protection Act.

Drain construction work starts

RCC drain construction work has been inaugurated in Bonpara Municipality of Baraigram upazila. Member of Parliament (MP) of Natore-4 (Baraigram-Gurudaspur) constituency Prof. Md. Abdul Quddus inaugurated the construction work by opening the plaque. On the occasion, a meeting was held at Halderpara of the Municipality on Thursday. The meeting was presided over by the Mayor KM Jakir Hossain. Also, President of Upazila Awami League Abdul Quddus Miaji, Principal Abdur Razzak Mollah, Upazila Executive Engineer of Public Health Engineers Department Alamgir Hossain Mia, Executive Engineer of Bonpara Municipal Shafiul Islam were present there. Besides, all the councilors of the municipal wards, Presidents and Secretaries of all the wards of Awami League were present at the inaugural function. Mayor KM Zakir Hossain said the cost of construction of about six kilometers of RCC drains in seven areas of the municipality has been fixed at around Tk 16 crore 82 lakh 30 thousand 733.

Marcel Football Tournament ends

In the final competition of Marcel Football Tournament “Jaynagar PCCB Football Academy” of Ishwardi Upazila of Pabna district became the champion with 6-7 goals and “Kathalbaria Kheladar Kalyan Sangstha” of Durgapur Upazila of Rajshahi district became runners up. This competition was held at the field of the Ramagari Govt. Pri. School on Wednesday afternoon at Baraigram of Natore.
Ramagari Football Academy organized it with the financial support of Marcel Co. Ltd. 8 teams from different districts took part in the competition. At the end of the game, Alhaj Almas Shah presided over the prize distribution meeting. Member of Parliament (MP) of Natore-4 (Baraigram-Gurudaspur) seat Prof Abdul Quddus was present as a chief guest. Also, Executive Director of the Marcel Co. Ltd Dr. Sakhawat Hossain, actor Amin Khan, actress Keya, Bonpara Municipal Mayor KM Zakir Hossain, Upazila Awami League President Abdul Quddus Miaji, General Secretary Adv. Mizanur Rahman, Principal SM Asad-uz-Zaman, District Awami League Member Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal were present as special guests.

Trader commits suicide
A businessman named Belal Gazi (50) has committed suicide by hanging himself in Baraigram of Natore. Belal was a son of late Mamtaz Gazi of Kalikapur village in the upazila. The incident took place at the victim’s own house recently.
According to the locals, at around 8 pm on Monday, he was found hanging with a rope in an abandoned room of the house. He was rushed to a local hospital. Hearing the news, the police recovered the dead body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy on Tuesday. He committed suicide due to a family quarrel.
