Women hacked to death
A sleeping wife Beauty Begum (45) was hacked to death by her husband in her bedroom with a local weapon in Natore’s Baraigram . The incident took place in Gopalpur village of the upazila on Sunday mid night. Beauty Begum was a wife of Abdul Barek of Gopalpur village of the Upazila and daughter of Altab Hossain of the same village. Locals said that Moazzem Hussain’s son Pintu Hossain of the same village had an love affair with Beauty Begum for a long time. Because of that, their family quarrel continued in their married life. They have 2 daughters and 1 son. Due to the marriage of the elder daughter and her son staying in Sylhet due to service, the younger daughter Mahia Khatun (13), studying in the seventh class, was in the same bedroom at the time.
Mahia Khatun says, after eating and drinking on Saturday night, my father and I were sleeping on the couch and my mother on the floor. At around 1 am, I woke up after hearing the sound of banging and saw my mother in a bloody state, and my father was standing next to my mother with a sharp hasuya. Then I started shouting and crying with panic and fear. At that time the father came out of the house and the neighbors came forward.
Release demanded
A human chain was formed demanding release from prison of Baraigram’s Jonail Cooperative Credit Union Manager Matiur Rahman Matin. Credit Union’s President Rafiqul Islam, Secretary Tanveer Ahmed, Member Shamsul Haque and Hosneyara spoke during the human chain. Speakers said, Jonail Bazar businessman Chayan Rosario had a conflict with another businessman Masud Rana over a check of Tk 22 lakh 57 thousand 340. On September 17, Masud Rana filed a case at police station of kidnapping and assault against 4 persons including Matin.
Youth dies of dengue
A young man named Hafizur Rahman (25) of Baraigram, Natore died of dengue disease. He died on life support at Popular Hospital in Dhaka on Friday morning. The deceased Hafizur Rahman is the son of Shahadat Hossain of Chaumuhan village of Jonail Union in Baraigram. It is known that he used to work as a freelancer in Tejkuni Para area of Dhaka. Jonail UP Chairman Abul Kalam Azad and locals said that when Hafiz was infected with fever, the test results showed that he was suffering from dengue disease. After that he was first admitted to Dhaka BRB Hospital and later to Popular Hospital on Wednesday when his condition deteriorated. He died early Friday while on life support there.
Medical camp held
Women’s health awareness discussion meeting and free medical camp held at Baraigram, Natore. Upazila Information Service Officer Monira Khatun presided over the discussion meeting held at Darikhoir Saheb Bazaar of Upazila recently. Chairman of the Upazila National Women’s organization Mst Najma Rahman was the chief guest at the meeting, the special guests were the member of the local union council. Lutfar Rahman, female member Swapna Khatun, social worker Alhaj Ashraf Ali and journalist Saifur Rahman. The meeting was attended by local elite and women seeking treatment. After the discussion, about a hundred women of different ages received treatment and counseling at the free medical camp.
